Advocacy is, and will always be, the core of Preservation Delaware, Inc.’s mission. Each year we grow increasingly concerned and alarmed by the relentless loss of historic buildings and cultural heritage sites in the First State.
Most recently, we have taken a strong and vocal stance against the demolition of the Houston House and its outbuildings, along with the subdivision of the surrounding five acres into lots. By setting aside the legally binding record plan, drawn up to protect this historically significant site, New Castle County government officials will effectively erode hard-won protections for all of Delaware’s historic resources.
We must fight this dangerous precedent—as well as those to come.
To ensure that we have the financial resources to avoid upcoming threats, PDI has established the Legal Defense of Historical Resources Fund, with a goal of raising an initial $10,000. These funds will allow us to mobilize quickly, conduct research, and engage legal experts to defend against this and future actions.
Time is of the essence—once these sites are destroyed, we can never get them back. We urge you to support our vital fundraising effort by making a donation today.
Thank you for your contribution of any amount—small or large—and for standing with us as we fight for our invaluable heritage.
