LAKE AVENUE - 2023 ENRICHMENT CLASSES (FALL SESSION 1)

Lake Avenue Elementary School PTA is excited to offer before and after school programs that bring professional educators and instructors to Lake Avenue. This session will run from September 18th - October 30th. Class registration supports LAKE AVE students directly as a percentage of tuition will be donated to the Lake Avenue PTA!


Classes do fill up so register early!


All morning classes begin at 8:10 am and students are dismissed directly to their homeroom at 9:10 am. Students going to breakfast will be dismissed 5-10 minutes early. Students for afternoon classes will go directly from dismissal to the designated class until 4:30 pm (unless stated otherwise). Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring students have transportation to morning classes at 8:10 am and from pick-up in the afternoon when class is over. IMPORTANT: Morning class dropoff must be after 8 AM. There is no staff available to supervise students before then and they will not be allowed in the building.


Scholarships are available. Please complete the form during the registration process for a discount code. In order to include as many students as possible, scholarships cover one class per student.

MORNING CLASSES - see details below:


MONDAY AM - YOGA WITH MR. JOE (5 weeks) - Enjoy the benefits of yoga all day long with some mindful movement and breathing first thing in the morning. Join retired police officer and yoga instructor from the State Park Wellness Center, Joe Dopp for a reflective and energizing yoga class. Feel free to bring your own mat to class, if not one will be provided.

Grades: K-5

Dates: 9/18, 10/2, 10/16, 10/23, and 10/30 (no class 9/25 & 10/9)
Tuition: $75


TUESDAY AM - SNACK ATTACK: THE BREAKFAST CLUB VERSION (6 weeks) - Start the day off right with our version of "THE BREAKFAST CLUB". In this popular culinary program students get to help create yummy snacks and learn some simple kitchen skills and nutritional science. Children who cook often become children who will taste and try more diverse foods including fruits and vegetables! Taught by BeTa Community Programs instructor Shannon Clute.

Grades: K-5

Dates: 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17 and 10/24

Tuition: $85 (plus $15 food supply fee)


WEDNESDAY AM - LEGO BRICK BUILDERS & BRAIN GAMES (6 weeks) - Everything is awesome with Lego! Warm up your brain and arrive to school ready to learn with morning Lego building and vaious Brain Games!

Grades: K-5

Dates: 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, and 10/25

Tuition: $80


THURSDAY AM - TRIPLE THREAT (6 weeks) - Johnny Martinez & Diane Lachtrupp, owners of Tango Fusion Dance Company (and director of Lake Avenue Drama Club) will use their extensive musical theater background to train students in the triad of acting, dancing and singing for musical theater. This is a great class for 4th and 5th grade students interested in joining Lake Ave Drama club! Students must wear sneakers or dance shoes for this class.

Dates: 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19 and 10/26

FRIDAY AM - YARN ARTS & CRAFTS (6 weeks) - Join knitting guru and yarn-tastically talented instructor, Michele Patton in exploring activities and fun with yarn arts.  Activities will include learning to finger knit, yarn arts & crafts, friendship bracelets and more.  Students will learn about kindness and caring by creating gifts for friends and loved ones. *Students are welcome to bring current knitting or other yarn projects from home to get assistance during class.

AFTERNOON CLASSES - see details below:


MONDAY PM - BASKETBALL (5 weeks) - NOTE: Class is 1.5 hours and ends at 5 pm. Elevate your skills, get in some exercise and have fun with your friends! Coach Dallas Wells will lead the group in basketball skills and fun activities in the gym. Other indoor "ball" sports such as dodgeball, kickball, football, soccer and more may be mixed in for more fun depending on class interest. Sneakers required. Please remember to send your child with a water bottle!

Dates: 9/18, 10/2, 10/16, 10/23, and 10/30 (no class 9/25 & 10/9)

TUESDAY PM - DRAWING DISNEY (6 weeks) - Drawing Disney is back! Join professional visual artist and illustrator, Kelly Smith and conjure up some magical drawings of some of your favorite Disney characters. This class will introduce students to various approaches to drawing and ways of seeing the world around them while exploring some of their favorite characters. Students will look at the world anew through artists' eyes and Disney magic.

Tuition: $100 (plus $10 art supply fee)


WEDNESDAY PM - SWEETS & SPRINKLES CUPCAKE DECORATING (6 weeks) - Have fun creating and decorating different fun themed cupcakes like a pro! We will be using buttercream frosting as we decorate cupcakes with a different theme every week. Please be advised, different color food colorings will be used as well as peanut products may be in the ingredients. Class taught by business owner and professional cake decorator, Sharra Cayla.

THURSDAY PM - STRENGTH CONNECTION - STRENGTH HAS A GREATER PURPOSE (6 weeks) - An introduction to developing strong, resilient, and powerful kids, both physically and mentally. Learn to connect the physical side of strength with the mental side, teaching the skill of intuition, resilience and self-awareness along with exercise and movement. Students will be taught both specific exercises for mobility, stability, balance, strength, and conditioning in the body, and combine them with mental exercises and skills of self-development they can use long after this short time together. Class will be taught by strength and life coach, Michael Kurkowski who has trained professional athletes and been trained himself by legends in strength world. Mike also hosts a podcast called "The Strength Connection".

Grades: K-5 *class is now open to students in all grades!

FRIDAY PM - CHESS (6 weeks) - Class is for both students who have never had experience with chess play and for students who want to continue to practice and play with others to learn more about the game. Introduction to the rules, board set-up, piece actions and moves, chess terminology and opening strategies will be learned and practiced. Chess gives players the life skills of planning, problem-solving, focus, concentration, creativity, spatial awareness, logic, and sharpens reading and math skills. Students will learn the basics of the ageless game of chess to play as a lifelong sport. All materials will be supplied. The class will be taught by selected members of the Saratoga Springs High School Chess Club.
