SCALLOP SHELL COLLECTION

I was lucky enough to grow up in a small coastal town, Holden Beach, North Carolina. I have many fond childhood memories of scouring the beach for shells in the summertime. I took it very seriously. While other kids had toy chests full of barbies, I had buckets full of shells that I would spend hours sorting and cleaning. I had my scientific shell identification book and would carefully identify the shells and mount them with hand written labels in my shell collection. The scallop shell could be such a tease walking up to the colors popping through the sand all excited only to discover that the hidden edges were broken. To find a whole unbroken one was always a very special find. The colors can vary so much from shell to shell...pinks, purples, reds, oranges, yellows...they are like rainbow colored candy for the eyes. This collection is part of a series inspired by my love of shells. There is a scallop shell in each corner of the border frame of my "Dream Big" illustration. I have set a monetary value of $250 for each shell image. If all four shells get fully funded we will have raised $1,000 towards our new home and studio space fundraising goals. Each time we have sold enough to fund a shell I will color in one of the scallop shells. I am especially excited for this goal because I can color each one in a little differently to represent the truly magnificent and colorful diversity of the shells.
