The Retreat's Mother's Day Fundraiser
The Retreat provides safety, shelter and support for children, adults and families affected by domestic violence, abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking. We offer confidential, free support services including a 24-hour hotline, legal advocacy, counseling, emergency shelter, positive fatherhood training and prevention programming for schools and the community. We have offices in East Hampton, Riverhead, Hauppauge, and Central Islip.
The Retreat helps people build safer, healthier and more meaningful relationships and everyday connections. Our mission is to break the cycle of violence.
How you can help:
In honor of Mother's Day, we have partnered with a local business, Matthew James Heart & Home, who is offering a special collection of handmade, dual-sided customized candles - one side featuring The Retreat logo and the other featuring the candle's scent to raise funds for our vital services. Scents available in this collection include Lavender, Lemon Verbena, and French Vanilla; the Mother's Day trio set includes all three scents. Every purchase is packaged in a unique box illustrated by children clients of The Retreat.
Each purchase helps ensure that The Retreat serves some of the most vulnerable in our communities, providing the services and resources they need to be safe and to heal.

More about Candles for a Cause by Matthew James Heart & Home
Jamie started handcrafting small batch skincare as a law student as a means of self-care. The ability to create allowed her to put mental health front of mind, making something that made her glow on the inside and out. It most importantly allowed her to channel positive thinking while her brother, Matthew (“Matt”) James, struggled with addiction. Ultimately, Matt succumbed to his addiction on Christmas Eve, 2014. While her family grieved, she brainstormed ways she could commemorate Matt’s memory. Jamie realized how important self-care was during her brother’s struggles in addiction and recovery. Matthew James Heart & Home (“MJHH”) combines her passion for self-care and advocacy for people like Matt who never had the ability to love himself enough and put self-care first. MJHH is a self-care brand stocked with products that puts your self-care first, reminding us to form a strong connection between our body and mind. This is not just another self-care brand, it’s a movement for a better tomorrow.
In keeping true to our brand’s mission, Jamie established the Matthew J. Ruiz Memorial Foundation helping families on Long Island + beyond who are affected by the opioid and drug epidemic. MJHH is a proud supporter of the work the Foundation continues to do. We know that Matty is so proud that we can make a small difference to those who are suffering from addiction.
