Pumathon is a fun lunchtime activity created to help our kids stay active throughout the school year. Young Pumas walk/run laps on the Pioneer track on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch recess in the fall and spring (37 total running days). They (along with some energetic staff) work towards running a marathon (120 laps) or more!
We also have an online lap tracker so families can track a runner's progress. Each 4 letter/number code is unique to the student and can be found on their running badge. If you are unsure of your child's code, please ask Megan Bartel / Kelly Zuercher in person or reach out via the email listed below.
There is a big emphasis on goal setting in conjunction with Pumathon. We are often heard asking the kids "What is your goal this year? How far will you go?" We encourage students to set S.M.A.R.T. goals. We love to see their confidence and growth as they work towards achieving their individual goal (whether it be little or lofty)!
Students have many opportunities for recognition of their efforts. They earn trinkets every 24 laps throughout the school year. Students get to ring the cow bell for "all to hear" every 120 laps (marathon) they finish. At the end of the year, we have an assembly to celebrate their accomplishments with medals for those completing at least 72 laps. Trophies are earned by the marathon runners. Believe it or not, we have Pumas who complete multiple marathons!
Pumathon is also an excellent way to get involved in school activities, meet your students' peers, and get to know other Pioneer parents. Sign up below to help. The kids love the support!
