Girl Scouts Racing Derby 2021

OVERVIEW
We had a great time at last year's derby and we are looking forward to another fun event in 2021!
This year's event will look quite different due to limitations on large gatherings as part of Covid-19 precautions. Car check-in and races will take place at the Elks Lodge at 1424 E Mulberry St in Fort Collins, and the action will be broadcast online so everyone can watch from home. Cars and trophies will be available for porch pickup after the event.
This event is open to ALL levels of Girl Scouts. The cost is $14 per girl. This includes the event registration and fun patch. Girls will need to purchase their own pine car kits.
Races will be divided by level and girls will compete within their level. (Levels with low registration may be combined).
Registration will remain open until all slots are full. However, the registration deadline to receive a fun-patch is December 15th.
TIME & SCHEDULE
Car check-in will take place on Friday evening at the Elks Lodge. Girls will sign up for check-in time slots so that we can limit the number of people gathered at one time. Racing order will be based on level, starting with Daisies and then moving up through Ambassadors. Cars will be available for pickup at the Elks Lodge from 1-2 on Saturday or porch pick-up following the event. More details, including check-in sign-up, online viewing times, and car and trophy pick-up, will become available as the event date approaches.
PRIZES
Trophies will be awarded at each level for 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and Girls' Choice for Best Design. A grand-prize trophy will be awarded to the overall race winner.
Voting for the Girl's Choice awards will be done online this year.
DERBY RULES
  • No pre-cut cars allowed - start with a standard pine car kit (more info below)
  • Each car must be made by the girl. Adult help is welcome and typically necessary, but the girl should do as much of the work as possible.
  • Each car must be made for this year's competition. Cars that have been raced in a previous derby may race, but will not be eligible for a trophy.
  • We will follow  these derby rules , including the listed car dimensions and weight.
Basic tools will be available to make weight adjustments during check-in.
CAR KITS
Cars must be made from a basic pine car block, plastic derby wheels, and nail-type derby axles. Pre-cut cars are not allowed. Designing, cutting, and finishing the car are important parts of the competition and help girls gain confidence and skills in using woodworking tools.
Standard pine car blocks are approximately 1 3/4 in wide x 7 in long with pre-cut axle slots.
Pine car kits and components may be purchased at the following locations:
Hobby Lobby,  Hobby Town ,  Amazon.com ,** ** Walmart.com
