I hope you're doing well. I'm really excited to share that I'm in the process of opening up a queer-forward performance venue and bar in the old Beverly Lounge space in Midtown Kingston. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time and the stars have finally aligned for it to become a reality.
For newcomers to the area: the space has been shuttered since 2020, but before that it was the pre-eminent queer space in Kingston, hosting weekly queer nights, open mics and parties, as well as live music events, drag brunches, swing and jazz dance nights, and more. I am hoping to bring back all of this programming and then some with a revitalization of the space, which I have renamed “Unicorn Bar.”
In order to make this venture possible, I do need to raise funds. In addition to the typical start-up costs for a venture like this (inventory, liquor license, marketing, etc), there are significant additional expenses pertaining to the soundproofing of the space, a re-design and re-furnishing of the back/side rooms and stage area, plus sound equipment, electrical upgrades, and paint throughout.
If you are in a position to do so, I would greatly appreciate any contribution you are able to make to the Unicorn Bar Fund. Whether it is $25 or $2500, it all helps! In exchange for your donation, I am offering the following:
$50+ = free round of drinks for 2
