The Eastern Band Boosters are pleased to share with you an exciting opportunity to help support the band program at Eastern Schools in Greentown, IN. Your contribution will allow our program to continue its record of providing outstanding performance opportunities to our students.
The importance of Music Education cannot be overstated. Students benefit in a number of different ways:
Music is a Science – It is exact and specific. It demands exact acoustics. A conductor’s score is a chart and graph, indicating frequencies, intensities, volume changes, melody, and harmony all at once with the most exact control of time.
**Music is Mathematical **– Music is rhythmically based on the subdivision of time into fractions.
**Music is a Foreign Language **– Most of the terms are in Italian, German, or French. The notation itself is certainly not English.
**Music is Physical Education **– It requires fantastic coordination of fingers, hands, arms, lips, cheeks, and facial muscles in addition to extraordinary control of the diaphragmatic, back, abdominal, and chest muscles.
**Music is Art **– It allows a human being to take all these dry, technically boring techniques and use them to create emotion.
**Music leads to success **– A ten-year study of more than 25,000 students showed that music-making improves test scores, regardless of socio-economic background. In 2001, SAT takers with experience in music performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal portion of the test and 41 points higher on the math portion than students with no coursework in the arts. Music majors are the most likely group of college grads to be admitted to medical school.
Eastern Band’s recent highlights include:
The high school marching band made an appearance at the ISSMA Semi-State Finals competition.
Both the Eastern High School Concert Band and Jr. High Concert Band earned a Gold Rating at this year’s ISSMA concert competitions.
++EVERY++ Eastern student who advanced to the State Solo and Ensemble competition earned a Gold Medal rating.
The Eastern band has traveled to Disneyworld, the Cotton Bowl, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Canada, and several national competitions.
